Six Barrel Soda Co. Cafe

When you see this brass plate you know you have come to the right place and you just need to head up the stairs inside the door to the Six Barrel Soda Co. Cafe.  The cafe is small and cosy, but enjoys glorious sunshine and a great vantage point of the bustling Te Aro Park between Dixon & Manners Streets.  Years ago the original Eva Dixons Cafe was situated here, as it was on the corner of Eva Street & Dixon Street, hence its name.  Since then there has been many businesses trying to make the venue work, the last one being a sushi bar.  We are predicting the 'Six Barrel' will be there for a while - here's hoping anyway.

They have been open for just under 3 weeks, and already enjoying loyal custom.  And who wouldn't love a soda bar?  Other things to love are the sodas, all made in Wellington, the fresh food made to order and Peoples Coffee.

A 'Float'
We ordered two Floats for the kids.  The one above was a lemon soda (traditional lemonade) and a scoop of Heilala vanilla ice cream.  The other Float, was a raspberry & lemon soda with again the vanilla ice cream.  You wouldn't think that lemon soda would work with ice cream in a float, but my goodness, it did.

Us adults enjoyed the Peoples Coffee, which was very well made.  Next time I will be very tempted to have the bottomless filter coffee, because sometimes one coffee just ain't enough!

A 'Slider'
The food was made fresh on site.  Thankfully no typical fries or paninis.  We had two of the sliders, which are mini burgers made with delicious fresh ingredients.  The picky youngest one got a plate of warmed bread and olives, which went down very well.

We're all very happy and will be back.

Wellington Fashion Week 2012

I was lucky enough to be in the Media front row seating for the Wellington Fashion Week 2012 Show last night at the magnificent Museum Building.

Wellington Fashion Week 2012 or wfw12 is the inaugrual year for Wellington to host a Fashion Show of NZ Designers.
The Designers exhibiting their Spring/Summer collections for 2012 are:

I make no excuse for the fact that we are colour enthusiasts.  So it is not hard to tell which of the NZ Designers took favour with us.

I loved the colour explotion and must-haves of Robyn Mathieson, the male models from neverblack, funky tights and lace up tops and dresses at philipa&alice, short shorts & Gosling music from +silence was...+, every single gorgeous dress from Kelsey Genna, the bold shapes from STORM and finally the colour combinations and wearable styles of Starfish.
