 Wellington Indoor Community Sports Centre Open Day

Come along to the official opening day of the Wellington Indoor Community Sports Centre on Saturday 27th August.
There'll be netball, volleyball, basketball, korfball, futsal (indoor football), athletics, handball, floorball, ultimate frisbee, celebrity sports match, face painting and inflatables.
The Wellington Indoor Community Sports Centre is at 72 Kemp Street, Kilbirnie, and provides indoor sport and recreation facilities for community use.
Free travel to and from the centre will be available on a bus shuttle running between Wellington train station and the centre. The shuttle will stop at all bus stops along route number 2, starting at 9.30am and running every half hour until 2.00pm. The last bus will leave the train station at 2.00pm and the centre at 3.30pm.
Parking is limited. If you need to drive, a park-and-ride service will run from the Evans Bay Marina car park.

This energetic show starts at Downstage on Friday 5^th August 

Direct from performing at the Taiwan International Percussion Convention, Strike’s most acclaimed show fuses power, lyricism and skill into an exhilarating musical experience like no other.

Founded in 1993, Strike is a high energy drumming group made up of New Zealand's most outstanding percussionists, specialising in movement-based, choreographed percussion.

NZ Film Festival

As mentioned in our earlier post about the NZ Film Festival there are plenty of films to choose from for all ages.

If you prefer not to search the choice of films online, then you can pick up a catalogue from the Visitor Centre, Civic Square, or at any of the theatres viewing the Festival films.

The Tree of Life is the winner of the Palme d'Or award starring Brad Pitt, but has now sold out in Wellington.

The brilliant Ryan Gosling stars in Drive on the closing night (14^th August).

Dancing Delights

Based on Nesta Ngoi Carwell-Cooke, a talented early 20th century Wellington dancer and dance teacher, this exhibition celebrates Wellington’s dance scene of the First World War and the present and features Nesta's collection of photographs, scrapbooks and original costume designs. Juxtaposing these archive images are Karen Walker’s contemporary designs for the Royal New Zealand Ballet’s Stravinsky Selection – Satisfied with Great Success.

7^th August 2.00pm A Chance to Dance with Tarrant Dance Studios - Wearing an historical pageant of different practice clothing, young dancers show a ballet class and the transition to performance that takes place. Directed by Deirdre Tarrant, with an interactive element – there will be a chance for young audience members to join in.  Open to all ages. Free entry.
