When this was the sight that confronted me in the mirror, I knew it was time for hair straighteners. I have called it - the white woman afro is not going to catch on, so there is no need to hang onto the 80's look.
I didn't think I would ever be talking about how the humidity affected my hair, or that hair serum just isn't controlling the fro anymore. Despite having curly hair in my family, I have never had anything other than dead straight hair. Then my hair stylist explained to me that ones hair changes every seven years. So, it seems I am now onto seven years of frizz. What to do?
Well, I can tell you what I did. I went into see Brian at Sarak Salon in Johnsonville and got myself some hair straightener irons. Sarak have just imported some titanium straighteners, called the LX Panther. At $120 these have to be the cheapest straighteners I have heard of. For example, a pair of GHD's will set you back over $300.
The word is that ceramic is out. Titanium plates are in. The Panthers have temperature controls and are less damaging on hair. There is no pulling or tugging at the hair. And there is a one year warranty.

Last week the lovely hair and makeup lady at TVNZ let me into a secret. A little bit of effort styling the hair and putting on makeup can change your appearance from undone to done.
Tomorrow I try using the Panthers to curl. Goodness, I might have to get up earlier in the morning?!
